Blonde, the re-imagination of Marilyn Monroe
Filmmaker, Andrew Dominik is the next Hollywood buff to reimagine the life and times of Marilyn Monroe, starring Ana de Armas. Based on the 2000 bestselling novel by Joyce Carol Oates, Blonde is a fictional imagining of Marilyn Monroe’s life while featuring reenactments of scenes from film classics like The Seven-Year Itch and Gentlemen Prefer Blondes.
While it’s known that Norma Jean’s personal life and inner thoughts weren’t nearly as glamorous as the persona of Marilyn Monroe, this depiction is slated to be an extreme dramatization. In response to the release of the trailer, discourse around the biopic has landed at an impasse between the appreciation of what looks to be beautiful cinematography and concern over whether or not the incessant romanticization and revisionism of Marilyn Monroe is dangerous.
Criticisms or praises, Blonde will debut on Netflix on September 28, 2022.
