Makhadzi & Lawrence Maleka win big at the 2022 DStvMVCAs

Back from a 2-year hiatus on account of COVID-19, DStv and Mzansi Magic hosted the DStv Mzansi Viewers’ Choice Awards (DStvMVCA) on June 25. Hosted at the Sun Arena in Pretoria, the blue carpet welcomed local celebrities and delegates in their Sunday best.

DStvMVCA nominee and host, Lawrence Maleka enthralled viewers and guests with his on stage charisma. Other entertainers like Boity, PH, and Presley Chweneyagae presented awards with the type of good humor and glamor viewers came to miss during the 2-year absence.

In addition to awards, performances by amapiano princess, Kamo Mphela, afrotech muso, Zakes Bantwini, and more rendered high energy performances between award presentation. While the glitz and glamor that is expected of award shows was ever present, so was the anticipation of the announcement for the most award, “Song of the Year”.

The belle of the ball at the DStvMVAs was none other than Makhadzi. Not only did she win the award for “Favorite Music Artist or Group”, she took home the “Song of the Year” award for her record,“Ganama” featuring Prince Benza.

Makhadzi wasn’t the only entertainer to leave with two awards, however. Lawrence Maleka, known for his portrayal of Tshedza Picture’s The River character, Zolani and for hosting Big Brother Mzansi (2022) nabbed the the “Favorite TV Presenter” and “Ultimate Viewers’ Choice” awards.

The DStv Mzansi Viewers’ Choice Awards has existed to celebrate South Africa’s talent. This year, MultiChoice expanded on this idea by announcing a new award. The “Enriching Lives Award” will be awarded “to a regular individual who selflessly works for the benefit of others.” Sponsored by Kia, this year’s award winner is Amantle Vikwane.

Overall, with the passing of one award season, another begins. Of the 2022 DStv Mzansi Viewers’ Choice Awards, Nyiko Shiburi, CEO of MultiChoice South Africa said, "The turnout was amazing. Pulling this event together has been an exciting experience, and it was all for a good cause: bringing South Africa together to celebrate and honour our entertainment greats.”
